Several Nevers

1. Never do a play that starts out as a male order bride-husband mix-up.

2. Never promise to do a play three months away when you are not sure who will play in it and you are pretty sure you will have no actors.

3. Never do a play that involves a nurse with a new age religion, a gay hindu doctor and his lover the midwife who has been to prison, and a Southern Baptist drawl cowboy car salesman who is the husband of a wife who also is into New Age. (Ok, maybe do that. It seemed funny at the time.)

4. Never make a play in two weeks, and agonize over how bad it still is, and then have it cancelled.

5. Never agree to do a totally different play in less than two weeks.

6. Never agree that changing main actors two days before the play is a good idea. Also never agree that you think it will still be a nice play if you do agree that changing actors two days before the play is a good idea.

7. Never agree to do a play in the middle of the day when you promised someone you would help them find a place to live in Leuven at the exact same time.

8. Never agree to get all the lights and sound set up when you don't even know how to buy a vowel. Or a light. Or a mike.

9. Never agree to dress up as a woman for a play. Again.

10. Never agree to impersonate a Spanish man pretending to be a spanish woman. Ever.

11. Never agree to do a play that clearly no one wants to play and that you don't actually understand why you are doing it yourself, especially if it's the first play of the year.

13. Never think that it won't be alright, since it's only fifteen minutes of your life. Really.

All I have to say is, when all the signs point to 'this is a bad idea clearly getting worse' I may need to learn to jump ship before I take people down with it. I don't know why I have this 'never say quit until I die' policy, but while it's good in some cases, I feel that I may have overdone it a bit. I'm alright for playing this play, and it will be fine, but it's sad because it could have been so much better, and the circumstances make it something not very nice, so that makes me sad. But, I am trying to be zen about things, so I will do my best to be happy and perservere. I think it will be alright.

I need to go to bed. And then I need to go to Brussels in the morning. If we have time. Sigh.

Brennan, your post is full of priceless advice, just remember Wisdom will keep you from making mistakes but the only way to gain wisdom is to make mistakes. AS much as logic should be able to reason every problem logic is only hte beginning of wisdom... he he he Brennan in a dress

No! There wasn't a dress! Uh, I just had to wear a housecoat. That's...it. And a wig. And some fake breasts. Yeah.
