The Metro

The metro is a rather trashy newspaper that they dish out every day for people riding...yes, the metro. Here are some of the articles, which I thought I would share.

In China, they put babies in tiny little water tubs, with life preservers around their necks in hopes that they will one day swim. This would seem interesting if that baby's face didn't look like it belonged to a sumo wrestler.

Also, they have people walk around in cute costumes of random coloured condoms, which will help people to understand the evils of AIDS. Yes, you too might get AIDS if you shake hands with the orange condom instead of the yellow one. Clearly, the moral of this story is that giant condoms with happy faces will one day rescue you from a sexual epidemic.

The rest of the articles are equally strange.

OK, bed time! Bye!

The picture of the Chinese baby actually made it into the StarPhoenix (the Around the World in Photos section), although there wasn't actually an accompanying story.

oh the Giant Condoms are hillarious. They remind me of the film "The Closet" that french ones that the guy at the condom factory comes out of the closet he was never in...do you remember it?

Never saw it, but you're the second person to mention it. Maybe I'll rent it soon.

Losing trains of thought, oh yeah. In Germland they had these billboards with pictures of vegetables and fruits wearing condoms (is that the right verb, can an inanimate object "wear" a condom? Well anyway...) with slogans like "[a condom] fits on every pickle" and "wrap up your banana to keep it fresh" (which I totally find ironic, as would anyone else who tries to keep bananas wrapped up in a plastic bag for more than a few hours.) Imagine waiting for the bus or tram with a giant picture of a condomed carrot behind ya!

In conclusion, European anti-AIDS campaigns are funny, no matter where in Euroland you go.
