Well....well....

So, to make a very long story short, I got my hair cut yesterday. And then I cut my finger nearly in half. But they can't put stitches in it because I basically carved out a good third of my right ring finger. And if it wasn't for Julian I probably wouldn't have even gone to emergency...so it's thanks to him that I seriously did not die in a pool of blood on the bathroom floor. =/

Then I waited in the hospital for a very long time. Basically, I ate my supper at midnight.

My finger throbs a lot, and if I hit it in the wrong place, I nearly see stars, but other than that, I'm really happy. I mean, if it had been a good 'Brennan day' I would have sliced my arm in half instead. Besides, too many good things are happening for me to be sad, so I know I'm really happy here...because there are some things that are just going right. And that's that I have a friend who will help me when I'm in trouble. And that's all I needed.

=D

(A little bit bizzare of an ending, I guess, but it means so much to have friends...)

New Cartoon!

Well, here it is! I will try and post one every little while until the weekend, because of a variety of reasons I will explain later. I really need to hurry! Late for class! Augh!

Genius

This was a really good video called 'Nose job.' Worth the watch.

Wohoo!

I fixed my dvd player.

It was suprisingly more easy than I imagined! Even better, my DVDs run quieter now. I love you pilates DVD!

And thank goodness for the internet. Life would be so expensive without it.

HA! IN YOUR FACE FLE!

I JUST WENT TO A PARTY WITH FRENCH EXCHANGE KIDS IN UNIVERSITY RESIDENCE AND SPOKE FRENCH COMPLETELY FOR 4 1/2 HOURS. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL AND EVERYONE UNDERSTOOD MOST OF WHAT I SAID AND I UNDERSTOOD THEM. (Uh, within reason.)

THEREFORE:

1) SCREW QUEBEC AND ITS ACCENT. NO ONE CAN UNDERSTAND THEM. I LOVE THE 'VRAIMENT' FRENCH.

2) I CAN PLAY DRINKING GAMES IN FRENCH. IN YOUR FACE, FLE.

3) I LOVE SPEAKING FRENCH. I HAD THE MOST FUN I'VE EVER HAD SINCE BEING HERE LAST NIGHT. IN FRENCH.

4) I AM VINDACATED. HENCEFORTH, I SHALL PROWL AND STALK FRENCH PEOPLE COMING TO QUEBEC IN RESIDENCE AND PERFORM DARK RITUALS AND MAKE THEM MY LANGUAGE SLAVES.

5) Uh, omit #4, especially about the whole "I'm into the necronomicon' kinda stuff.

6) I LEARNED AND FIXED SEVERAL PIECES OF MY F-LANGUAGE AT AN EXTREMELY LARGE PARTY. I HAD CONVERSATIONS THAT LASTED OVER 45 MINS IN FRENCH. I AM AWESOME AND SCREW THE GRAMMAR NAZIS IN THE FLE AND THEIR INABILITY TO PUT ME IN THE RIGHT LEVEL OR AT LEAST CHALLENGE ME AT THE LEVEL I'M IN. STILL. ANGRY. KILL. RAGE. FUME. VENT. RANT. MOB. TEDDY BEAR. YES!

7) I WILL HENCEFORTH MOVE TO FRANCE AND BE A REFUGEE AND LIVE IN A SLUM OF PARIS. I WILL OPEN A TABAGIE WHERE PEOPLE CAN WALK INTO MY STORE AT 3AM DRUNK AND HIGH AND BUY DORITOS AND AMERICAN CIGARETTES. THIS IS A GOOD IDEA. IT WILL WORK WELL. FRANCE LOVES ME. MORE THAN A PHD.

8) I MET A GERMAN GIRL IN PHILOSOPHY AT THE PARTY. I WILL MAKE HER MY FRIEND. SHE WILL HELP ME ENROLL IN A PHILOSOPHY COURSE. LIFE HAS MEANING AGAIN. I HOPE SHE E-MAILS ME.

In other news, I lost David when he left the party, my 'debutant' friend in my class who invited me . I meant to walk him or see him home, but I lost him. =/ I really hope he's not dead in a gutter somewhere. Eeek. More stress.

Seriously, people, I came here to speak french. I do not have good things to say about this program yet, and it continually goes downhill, so it's only good things about french people. (Which, when you think about it, means that I would have been better off just coming here and working and making money instead of spending money. Sigh.) And I feel much better that I talked to french people, and a lot of them admitted that they don't even understand the Quebeckers here. So, in my love affair with Quebec I have only one thing to say...it's not me, Quebec. Maybe it's a bit me, but maybe it's a lot of 'you.' Therefore, we might have to break up someday. Please don't let this happen. Make me love you again and all your 'oui's. Have me fall in love you with, like the snowflakes that ever so delicately cut into my face, because they're not snowflakes, they're freaky ice storm chunks shaped like daggers and the size of fleas. I can still take your abuse Quebec. I'll still say I fell down the stairs and hit my head when I have that black eye in my grammar and in my speech...people will believe me. So, make it so, Quebec, make it so.

*End rant*

Say Whaaaaat?

You know, I was looking up posts on 'language school horror stories' (the reason being, well, y'know) and I must say, this is terrible...it's all about the people in the U.S.A. who fear that illegal immigrants are taking over their country. This is crazy:

"I'm all for learning a second language, but here in Texas we're probably in the beginning stages of seeing Spanish classes mandated for all children. Many of our European ancestors whose first language was not English still learned it after arriving in America. Why are we catering to and making exceptions for the (mostly illegal) Mexicans?"

Are you kidding me? Did you actually just write that??? Look, I know that I'm not aware of the local culture or anything, but have you considered the fact that technically the world does not revolve around Enlgish normally, it just does now because of the internet and high speed tech?? Geez.

I would be interested to know what my American friend Ginny thinks about this...(in fact, Ginny, when I'm in Toronto in a few weeks, I DEMAND that you tell me what this is, and why I can't understand) since she's really good at explaining American culture to me in so many different ways. =D

The rest of the thread is nuts, as well. It's all about how American culture is dying and illegal immigrants get more than registered citizens. I honestly don't understand it. Secondly, there's all this stuff about how peaceful demonstrations of white people are what's really needed to put everything back in its place. While I kinda understand, I still don't get it. Because, really, after the huge movement against racism in the 80s, and all those great songs, and even the show South Park with Chef being black, I still don't understand how this kind of racism exists.

Oh, and sleep post still matters people. Tell me what you think. Brennan needs a new sleep pattern.

OK, for real

Honestly, this is getting out of hand.

I can't sleep.

Can't anyone tell me some good methods to relax before going to bed? Seriously, I'll try anything. I sleep at whacko hours (usually when I don't want to, like 8-11pm and 1-3pm) and I lay in bed eyes wide open the rest of the time. Anything, I'll try anything.

Should I stand on my head before I sleep? Was there a memo somewhere that that's what people do now before bedtime? Or maybe I'm not doing enough zen meditation? Seriously, people what am I missing?

I'm doing alright with it, but seriously, I go to class and then I go home and sleep. This is crazy.

Something silly

Hey there,

Well, I FINALLY looked at the blog someone else made with videos for their university, and it's pretty alright.

http://pattyandeugene.blogspot.com/

I especially recommend episode 2, with the hair fairy. =D

The reason Ryan (who plays Eugene, and normally looks and acts a lot more normal) suggested this site to me is because 'Eugene' is supposedly from Saskatchewan, and therefore, lisps.

Very funny.

Typical

I was looking around for good Quebecker restaurants and student haunts on the internet, and I found this in relation to the Quebec carnival:

Christopher DeWolf says:
By the way, I’m not sure if growing up in Quebec City desensitizes you to this, but Bonhomme Carnaval really freaks me out. He looks like some sort of monster who feasts on human flesh but tries to disguise himself as an innocent habitant by wearing a floppy tuque and a ceinture fléchée.
Judging by that photo of the Bonhomme bread, though, it looks like someone uncovered his ploy and murdered the poor guy. What was the murder weapon? The Naya water, the candy sex toys or the frosted turds?

I laughed so hard at this. You really do have to see Bonhomme in person...he's certainly uh, well, odd. A picture so you can see...

I completely agree with the above blog commenter. Why DON'T more people think Bonhomme is scary? I was never afraid of clowns, but snowmen without pupils and a greek mask style smile?

I'm so WORRIED I'll be in crap.

Well, I have finally sent a letter to the director (female). So, hopefully she/my prof doesn't hate me, since I've talked with some of you about the problems I've had with my french course.

Here is the letter I wrote:

Bonjour XXXXX,

Merci,

Brennan

(ENGLISH VERSION)

Hello XXXXX,

I am a student in the FLE (elementary level), and I would like to speak with you because the advanced students in this level have a problem with the speed of the course, therefore, after speaking with some other students, I would like to find a solution that is good for us.
Please write me if you can find the time for me.

Thanks,

Brennan

I just realized I made one mistake with it, though (stupid 'toi', geez) but other than that, it's alright? Do you think it sounded nice enough?? You think I don't sound like a terrible human being??? Oh crap, I hope I'm not stirring the pot. We'll have to see what happens, I guess. =/

I keep being told by people I speak really nice french, which is really disconcerting. I kinda hate that. =/ I want people to correct my terrible accent. REALLY. (Wait until Ralph comes here, and is like, "How is that french?" Sigh.

Well, today is phonetics, so that WILL happen, and I haven't slept because I've been up all night worrying, so I'll speak french with a bad accent, it's in the cards. I wish I wasn't up all night, but when you have really mixed feelings, it's hard to sleep. For me, anyways. And I have so much insomnia these days it's really not much of a change. So it's alright. =)

Anyways, it's all fun and games until you forget to buy a book for your course. Sigh. SIGH. Anyways, whatever. It happens. =) "It's the life," as my roomate Steve would say. Har har.

It's the life.

Death to Applied Ethics!

Honestly, if I hear one more person laud on about the values of applied ethics....

I don't know, but it probably won't be very ethical.

WOW!

SCORE!

I FIGURED OUT A WORD TODAY!

I'm just so excited because I knew the word approximately without having to know the infinitive.

I can't tell you how exciting that is...but it's really, really exciting for me. It's a good leap feeling.
