Mumps is what used to be called the kissing disease. You can get mumps from saliva, which means it's highly contagious. And, by chance you're a male, you might get orchitis, which is a painful inflammation of the testicle, shown, er, thankfully NOT shown, in this video.

Right you are. Mono is what other people call the kissing disease. I should clarify.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, they called mumps the kissing disease. Don't know why, but hey, you learn strange things when you are little.
Just to back myself up a little bit, the Times online calls it a kissing disease as well. =)
