Soccer/Football

So, I played my very first European football match today with a bunch of Belgians...it was pretty fun. Honestly, it was a lot like playing regular soccer, only less talking because my dutch is poor, and I can't imagine the other players turning on their English mode to call out stuff. Anyways, we lost miserably (but that certainly made me feel a lot better about how I played) and I can't believe how much I miss playing sports, or any sort of regulated group activity. (Acting in no ways counts. Acting is more like regulated chaos as opposed to structured and ordered activity.)

The REALLY good thing about it was that I got to accomplish one of my life long goals, which was to be able to take a shirt of mine and wring the sweat from it...I totally did that today! =D =D =D I know some people will think that's gross, but, hey, don't knock it until you try it! =D

The really not good thing about today, is Patrick, Montseratt's fiancee who had invited me out to play foot-a-ball, managed to sprain his ankle, and Montseratt had to take him to the hospital, so I hope he's ok. I felt really, REALLY bad for him...but, you know, I suppose it could have been worse. I mean, he probably just twisted it minorly, says Dr. Brennan, but I suppose it'll depend on what the doctor says. It's weird, though...everyone was just standing around like they didn't know what to do about a soccer injury...I find that, well, more than a little distressing. I was the first to help Patrick off the 'field' (indoor soccer) and it's just weird, because I was sitting on the bench, and they called me over, but I think it was more a 'Hey, since Patrick just broke himself, that means you on the field,' vs. 'Hey Patrick is broke maybe someone should call somebody or do something about that.' I know that some people think differently in the moment, but, I mean, really. Also, shouldn't these people know a sports injury when they see one? What up with that? Although, it IS just a friendly game of soccer, so it's no big deal, I guess, but still. The whole apathetic-ness of it all is rather concerning to me.

But, other than that, it was a great night.
