Yahoo HILARITY

Happy Easter

Well, for your viewing pleasure, I have FINALLY started using Photoshop, and boy, what a difference. Man this is a powerful program. I can do things now in one click I didn't even realize. BONUS! To commemorate said occasion, here are two special wallpapers...I couldn't decide which I liked best...could you maybe let me know??? In the comments?? Please???? I like the small bunny because smaller is better, but I also like the big bunny because, well, because that was probably what took the longest, and I hate to lose the detail, even if it is bad! Sigh. Be aware these are large files. =)

Anyways, it is Easter, and this is a very important time for Christians, and as a Catholic it's super huge. It is a massive time of change, it is the time of change for the better. Somebody just died, but if you're not careful, you'll miss the punchline. Easter is a happy time because it is the beginning of spring and the beginning of new life, physically and religiously the end of a season of death. For me this year, my focus is now on looking towards to the end of the season of death, which I guess we would call sin, and look towards goodness, inner strength and peace, and forwards to the rising of the dead, from old life to new life. Easter is the time for change, so if there is something in your life which needs changing, fixing, or deliberating on, now is the perfect time. Nothing will last forever, which will always be a reason to celebrate and a reason to cry. But while we're still alive, we have a chance to be a little closer to who we really want to be.

Take the time to change.

Bit of a Benchmark *Cymbal Crash*

Hey guys, I just wanted to say that I have officially published something and got paid for it.

I wrote a review of my new laptop, the Acer 5720 and while the pay was only in paypal dollars, I am glad that it was finally published. They did a little bit of editing of my text, but it's mostly original, which I'm really happy about. 90% of the tech stuff is by me! *I'm so happily geeky!* Usually just the other stuff that is always in the reviews (explanations of benchmarks) is by the site. If you go right now, you can see it on the front page of http://www.notebookreview.com/! I'm so excited about this!

I learnt a couple of things from this:

  • First, never delete any of your material or programs that you used until everything is published. (I really kicked myself that I didn't do this...cost me extra time.)
  • Remember to write down your results for every and keep it in a safe place. (I am so glad I did this.)
  • Don't forget to follow the exact format people ask...I left out a couple things because a) I was tired and b) I thought it would detract rather than add to the review (extra text, useless pictures, videos, etc.) but actually, people wanted this stuff! Dang it! I should have just included it all!
  • That writing articles for magazines is much easier than I thought it was. Although this took a lot of time to make because it was my first time (and the french-english schizo) AND because I am really trying to write something well because I know I can use this for a resume any day, this still wasn't that hard. I could write for a living if I did this all day. Although, it really helped that I loved what I was writing about, in a really geeky kinda way. =)
I'm going to go take a screenshot of the webpage right now! YAY FRONTPAGE BRENNAN!
=D

Music

You know, I've been doing a lot of thinking lately (or perhaps the abscence thereof) and I realize that I love really happy, good-vibe music. Shamefully, I am currently addicted to S-club 7 videos on the Internet. Whenever I'm feeling sad, I listen to S-Club 7. It's really sick, I know, but I love the choreographed dance and the people in it are cute and clean-cut all of them, so you feel like you're in a happy place where no one has heard of the term bling and you don't need to swear or be existential to create good music that people like.

Infortunately, I've started listening to Coldplay as well on youtube, and watching the music videos, I get really depressed, in that very emo way where you cuddle with your sadness. I ssit there and get sad, and then I decide I need something happy, and I listen to S-club 7 and watch them dance around in pastel colours that have clearly been chosen carefully and sing about love and happiness and 'making it.'

Repeat ad infinitum.

Obviously, this is probably not a mentally healthy exercise, but I just can't seem to stop. I love listening to 'The Scientist' or whatever it is called, and "Yellow" and then listening to "Don't Stop" or "Never Had a Dream Come True" or "Reach" or even "You" by S Club 7.

That's because "That's when all your dreams will come true."

Sigh.

This is so mentally unstable.

Maybe it's because...

Maybe it's because I have some serious schouden-freuden-something-something, but really, this is just Canadian reporting at its best, if you ask me.

Yo!

Today is my friend Elizabeth's birthday.

Please send her an e-mail, e-card or otherwise today.

Happy Birthday Liz!

Ryerson Facebook What?

Apparently, there is a huge ker-smudgel at Ryerson University because someone was using facebook to study with other people on group assignments instead of doing it in a library, and this has gotten him expelled. I had no idea this sort of thing was a problem...honestly, it's an information share, and I assume that people do this sort of thing all the time, and considering that there are such things as group assignments, this sort of behaviour is normally encouraged and isn't called cheating. I understand why it is a problem, but expelling someone from University because they use facebook?? To me, this just says that academia is power-hungry for things that are important to them, ie. the control of public space.

6. How many Freudians does it take to change a lightbulb? Two. One to change the lightbulb and another to hold the penis – uh, I mean, the ladder!

13. How many Bush administration officials does it take to change a light bulb?
None. There’s nothing wrong with that light bulb. There is no need to change anything. We made the right decision and nothing has happened to change our minds. People who criticize this light bulb now, just because it doesn’t work anymore, supported us when we first screwed it in, and when these flip-floppers insist on saying that it is burned out, they are merely giving aid and encouragement to the Forces of Darkness

Trip to TO

Hey everybody, I finally uploaded all my pictures! I just want you to know the reason this took so long is because blogger was apparently having server issues. Not my fault! Anyways, onto ye slides! (I only have pictures from pretty much TO onwards, I asked Ralph to take pictures in QC, and he hasn't sent them to me yet, so I haven't had the chance to either put them here or share them otherwise, alright? No hatin'.)

The couple of pictures I DID take, though, were of Ralph and I doing the most Canadian of all Canadian things, skiing. And what would Canada be, if not boring? Therefore, naturally, we took up our cross-country skis and headed into the great white. Unfortunately, we only had about an hour's worth of time with our skis, but this was alright. That's more than enough time to fall a lot if you've never done it.

Like this for example. Unfortunately, I didn't whip out my camera quick enough to see Ralph in full spread eagle form on the ground for the fourth or fifth time, but he did pretty great, all things considered. We had a lot of fun, even though it was quite icy. I had my fair shares of falls as well, but that's what I get for trying to treat cross country skis like alpine skis, and thereby causing my own faults. Thankfully, Ralph and I just arrived on time to return our skis, (well, I kinda skied ahead a bit, since we were running a bit late.) and then we headed to a subway, where I got to chat with some nice people with special needs who were playing in a big hockey tournament, and they had taken the train from the Maritimes, which I simply couldn't believe. (Hilariously, Ralph didn't realize these people had special needs until about fifteen minutes later when he asked, "So what's with those people, they're pretty uppity.") The next day, after some, uh, madness finding my friend David's house and having him drive us to the airport (not before his car stalled, though!) We managed to get on a plane to TO.

For all you who don't know, this is my wonderful friend Sarah. I also took a picture of her wonderful now fiancee Mike, but the picture was super blurry, and therefore, I can only give this picture here. Sarah and Mike are great, and they were really gracious and let Ralph and I crash on their futon, while they often worked from home. Eh heh. I love e-commute. What a life. Sarah suggested we go off to Kesington Market, where we got into loads of trouble with an older gal who ran two alternative clothes shops called "Exile." And who made Ralph try on wigs. I am so VERY glad I brough my camera.

Here's Ralph looking shockingly like Sarah Michelle Gellar.

This is Ralph as a member of K.I.S.S. I think he pulls off the look rather well.
To celebrate, we decided to get t-shirts sort of as a souvenir of our trip. Ralph got one with the count, and I got one with a pixelated apple. Because I'm like that.

The ever famous CN tower on a very cold day.

Ralph attempting to smile in -20 weather. We eventually decided to go visit a Second Cup because Ralph was interested in a latte they had there. I ended up getting a grean tea latte, which basically was shamrock green, and Ralph had something equally as disgusting. The lesson of this is--don't buy $7 drinks from Second Cup. You'll only feel sick.
After Ralph left on Thursday, I stay had two days to spend with Ginny, Mike and Sarah. The best was when Sarah had a dinner party and I made dessert, and Sarah made Ratouille.

As you can see, professional chef Sarah is doing a very nice job serving up. Her friend Erin and Erin's bf Jann are in the picture, and you can see the back of Ginny's head in this photo. It's really a shame I didn't take a picture of Ginny while I was there, but we were too busy doing too many fun things, and Ginny looks really great. So for all those who haven't met Ginny, Ginny's now a big city girl! She seemed really happy in TO, so that made me estatic, since one thing that was sad was how unhappy I knew she was in Belgium.
After all the fun and games, I had to return home, so I took the Via-rail for the first time ever. Boy, was pretty fun! I also went walking downtown in Montreal, and I have to say, it's pretty nice.

However, one thing that I found was that the red light district and the downtown area fit rather seamlessly together. How very French-Canadian.
I decided to take a picture here to demonstrate. Right by a restaurant is a peep show. The guy in the touque on the right is actually the bouncer. So, if you want a good burger or a peep show, just look for Mr. Steer's!

Because I found the concept, the picture, and the title all completely unbelievable, (and the fact that it was clearly for the red-light market people at 3a.m.) I decided to give you a close up. I was running short on time, or I would've eaten there.
...
Y'know, for the cultural experience. Eh heh.
Anyways, I should run....talk to you all later! =D

Games!

BreadnButter, I don't think I've seen anything more unbelievably cute than a piece of bread with dog features. If you like time-waster games, this is worth a look. Unfortunately, you need to buy stuff from the site to get most of the points, but other than that, this is really cute and it's about baking, so I get into it, and you can easily spend hours doing this thing.

Coming back

Well, I will be returning tomorrow, with a ride share from toronto to montreal, and take the train in Montreal to Quebec City. Yay! We have a dinner party tonight, but other than that, just waiting to retransport myself back in QC, QC.

This trip has been pretty eventful...it wasn't easy to see Ralph leave, on Thursday, but it's been such a blessing being with Ginny and Sarah and Mike here, it's just made me all peaceful and full of happy. I couldn't ask for better. I'll load pictures later, when I have a minute in the QC.

Later. =)
